IT WAS A GOOD MONTH

30 days in June. Yesterday was the last one. 308.01 miles later, I have set a personal record for the most miles ridden in 1 month. 308! This month (July) will be even more, with the Booty ride coming up at the end of the month.

I got out last night for an invigorating 12-mile ride. I remember (fondly, and horribly) when I first started riding back in September after a 10 year layoff. I felt old. I felt fat. (I was old, and I was a bit pudgy!)

Last night, I felt like I was in my 20's again. It's a good feeling. A bit of invincibility came over me. Wisdom now has a stronghold on me as well, which curbs the "Superman" complex in me, but last night, it felt great. I charged the hills. I rode quickly. I recovered from the hills with ease. I rode like I was 21 again.

I must have ridden too well though, because I TOTALLY slept through my 4am wake up call. I was to meet Bill out in the cul-de-sac at 4:15am. Oops.

I turn over, and the clock is reading 4:34am. "SONOFA@!#!" I yell to myself internally as I quickly grasp the fact that I blew Bill off for a ride. At the same time, I'm mentally placing where I left my riding clothes, so I could gear up and possibly meet up with my neighbor, albeit a bit late.

At 4:35am, I have the garage door open, I'm fully ready and pulling my bike down from the hook that houses it when I don't ride. As I straddle my Cannondale, I have a vision of, "this is how Paul Revere must have felt" come over me.

I grab my helmet, gloves, water bottle, and off I go.

I search the side streets to see if I can spot Bill out riding.

No luck. I figure he saw me sleep in and probably went back inside for another 40 winks himself.

About 2 miles into my 3 mile loop, off in the distance, I see a blinking tail-light.

Bill did make it out!

I increase my pace and meet up with to finish off a 16 mile ride for him, and a 10 mile ride for me.

So here we are in July. I'm 10 miles into what may amount to 400 miles this month.

Tonight I want to jog. Bill may join me.

At least I won't oversleep THAT!~
